The short version: this site doesn’t want your data. There are no accounts to create, no comments to leave, and nothing to buy. You can read every page here without telling us who you are.
Here’s the complete picture of what happens when you visit, in plain English.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages people find useful. It sets cookies and collects things like your approximate location (city level), your browser type, and which pages you visited. We see this only as anonymous, combined numbers. We never see your name, and we can’t identify you from it. If you’d rather not be counted, Google offers a browser opt-out, and most browsers let you block cookies entirely. The site works fine either way.
Hosting and Security
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider (SiteGround) and content delivery network (Cloudflare) keep standard server logs: IP addresses, timestamps, and pages requested. These exist for security and troubleshooting, and they’re kept for a limited time under those companies’ own policies.
If You Contact Us
If you write to us through the contact page, we receive what you send: your message and the email address you give us. We use it to reply to you, and that’s it. We don’t add you to any list, and we don’t share it with anyone.
What We Don’t Do
We don’t sell data. We don’t run ads. We don’t use tracking pixels from social networks. We don’t send newsletters. Some pages link to outside sites (encyclopedias, journals, source documents), and once you click those links, their privacy practices apply, not ours.
